So I Painted This Tropical Themed Oil Painting ..
A while back and went back to it the other night. I hung it on the wall to get a better look at it and figure out what's next. I have been contemplating this for a while now.. should I leave it alone and call it done, or cut it up and crop it into two paintings. For some reason I don't like it. Maybe there is too much black or not enough color. Either way something is bothering me about it. When I blocked one half of it off, I noticed it appealed to me much more than being 24 inches long. Two separate square paintings may be the ticket.
If This Painting Were Two Separate Paintings ..
Then this is what it may look like (see below). It would definitely reduce the numbers of palm trees and palapas' that I went nuts painting in. To my defense, this is what I had envisioned, because when you go to a resort, the pack these in all over the place. Sometimes this is what it looks like and how I remember a resort feeling. After all, that's the idea behind the painting in the first place.. The resort at night, and just before the dinner crowd starts making their way to the restaurants.
Here I cropped out the left side of the painting and left the right side in view.
Next I cropped out the right side and left the left side intact.
And for the heck of it, I decided to crop both the left and right sides making the frame more of a normal size. I suppose everyone has a different idea of what 'normal' is. For this example I'll say 12 inches by 16 inches.
Some Help Would Be Appreciated ..
For anyone that would like to say one way or another.. I would greatly appreciate any opinions. My gut is telling me to split it in half, but it's always hard to do this. I feel like I am going back on my original plan.
Until I Decide..
I'll just have to take another trip to the Caribbean for more inspiration. Maybe then, while sitting in the shade of one of those palapas, I can make a final decision. A few cold tropical drinks would be nice!!
Thank you for swinging by my blog and checking out the post. Have a great day!

About Me ~ The Artist
My art work incorporates a wide variety of subject matter, including landscape, seascape, cityscape, and still life images. My works are the product of a continuing process of exploration through which I seek to portray personal and visionary interpretations of my surroundings. My paintings are impressions of places and events from everyday life, an interpretation of my imagination, and personal responses to what I see and feel on a daily basis. More recently I have invested generous amounts of time into my landscape painting. I am surrounded by natural and man made beauty, which inherently presents itself in the tri-state area, and almost demands that I paint it.
Not everything is art. Art is not everything, but it comes close. Art is everywhere and all the time. Art makes you experience the beauty of the world, the people in it, and the places we call home. Art itself is so influential that it can tell stories, show feelings, and express passion or fury. Art exists in addition to language; expression of sensations and thoughts, revealing a way of thinking too subtle and delicate for words.
For me art requires love, honesty and perseverance. In return, it reveals some personal, non-analyzable, and creative untamed passion. For the public, art with its magnificent beauty, improves mood and health and builds better human beings and communities. It engages the intellect, softens the heart, strengthens the soul and frees the spirit.
