A Painting I made of my dear old cat Puss.
The entire thing without the crop:
One of the few sketches I made before making the final piece:
I have been far too distracted this week.
I'd every intention of having a few more things finished and up online by this point, but Life happens. Things come up and you have to make time for them and your friends. I hope to get down to business more soon.
I am off again this morning, so I thought I'd share a work I made last year of my darling cat Puss.
Puss came to us with our house Toad Hall as she lived there when we moved in.
It was not love at first sight and she was actually a bit feral. But, her desire to be loved overcame her fears and within a few months she wouldn't leave my side.
She was often more dog companion than my actual dogs.
And she loved to walk down to the beach with me in the morning and when I'd go for my post walk swim, she'd wait on the shore where the water met the sand until I came back out.
Unfortunately we lost her lost year. I mean literally lost her as she went out one day and never came back. She was very old, but she was also a great hunter and had not been eaten by foxes or such well before she became a house cat, but I think it was a fox that moved into our yard.
However she passed, she is greatly missed.
Whatever work I do, whether it is more painting or illustration, I always make studies in pencil and often pencil and water colour to play with ideas and such before I make a final piece. It's just how I have always worked and I really enjoy the process.
I think one of the reasons I was a Printmaker for some years was loving the process.
But, I digress.
Here is the piece in gif form showing some of the layers from sketch to background colour to shading and final detail:
I actually made this as a limited edition digital print on Makers Place. I really think art on the block chain is going to be a major way people will collect and share art in the future. It makes me wonder what a future edition of Antiques Road Show would be like? Will there be someone a hundred years from now pressing a button and the painting they've brought in just appear like Princess Lea's Hollogram?
Well, I am off for the day. I hope you have a day where you can get a few minutes to yourself and get some tasks finished. I am longing to check off things on my list, it is such a satisfying feeling.
