Hello everyone :D I finally got around to trying out my new ink pens that ordered on Aliexpress not so long ago. They were pretty cheap so I decided to take the gamble. I believe I got my money’s worth, even though 2 pens aren’t working well. I love tiny, cute doodles, but I’ve never been good at them as my hands are a bit shaky. I gave it a try anyways, as I won’t improve at it unless I practice ^^
After 10 mins of doodling I ran out of ideas so I searched for some online. I was delighted to discover that several of my dragons in the top searches for “doodle dragons” -
This is my entry for sketchbook contest here: https://steemit.com/art/@sndbox/create-a-drawing-for-sketchbook-saturday-critday-archisteem-contest-5 I couldn't help but enter again as there are so little entries :) It's a weekly contest, so consider entering next week!
I gave each pen a try while doodling to get a better feel for them. Sadly 0.2 didn’t want to work but later it suddenly started working but not as well as others. I wonder if I can revive it with alcohol or something.
The brush turned out to be the weirdest one and hardest, as I’ve never used any such pens before. Also I think it’s meant for bigger scale art.
I don’t have any particular tips for doodling other than practice and pick some themes that interest you. For example gems, flowers, art supplies or animals. There are a lot of other unique themes as well!
A big part of doodles is to simplify shapes as much as possible. You can have incredibly detailed doodles, but if you look closer you will notice the simply repeating lines and shapes.
Once I was done doodling I took a scan, because I couldn't get better lighting for photos. I also had to resize the image to fit the contest's guidelines.
Remember, you can doodle with any regular pen. Good art isn’t limited by art supplies.
A side note: I picked up an interesting book collection here, I might write more about it in the future, but the sale ends in 10 days :)
Thank you for reading! _
