I worked on this Griffin (in Italian is "Grifone") yesterday night, when the air in my home was more fresh than during the day. I have to say that I like this subject, because using my own illustrative style he looks more friendly than a "common" Griffin ^_^
This is the third oil painting on paper I made about the Rioni (the old way to call the territorial subdivision in my city) and this one represent the Rione called Grifone.
The name and the symbol of this Rione came from the Church of Saint Andrew in the neighboroughood, that was the arger area of the city in the ancent time. Now we call that area "Porta al Borgo" and even if in the old time it was a sort of small "industrial" area, now there are a lot of abandoned activities along the streets. When I said it was a sort of industrial area, you have to figure how can be that kind of area in a small town about 500 years ago ^_^
The colors of this Rione are white and red, so I represent it using these colors and, sure, using them to paint my usual delicate leaves.
I hope you like it!
See ya soon,
Silvia
