Something to think about.... statistics show that currently over 30% of Americans are not prepared for retirement. By retirement age they have $1,500 or less in a personal account, no definite financial plan, no 401k (or something similar to that).... and many of them no longer even have an official source of income. If you include a chunk of debt on top of that, you'd find that many people are actually in the "red" going into their twilight years; either slightly or significantly.
The lack of planning involved here is possibly a result of carelessness and neglect, short sightedness or a whole lot of misfortune. Whatever the situation may be, more and more people are facing the grim reality that they may have to work well into their retirement years just to survive.
