Today we would like to contribute to the #seaphotography contest organised by @marc-allaria!
We were very lucky to have the opportunity to sail with these beautiful old boats to the historical city of Middelburg, The Netherlands (the city we currently call home!). The canal we sailed through is 'Het Kanaal door Walcheren'. This canal connects 'Het Veerse Meer' from the amazingly quaint Veere through Middelburg to the 'Westerschelde' in Vlissingen.
In the past, Middelburg was connected to the sea through a river and, because of this, was an important city for the VOC. Many boats have been made throughout the years in Middelburg and the boat pictured is no exception (although I've been told this is a replica so not as old as it may seem). Middelburg was the second most important city of The Netherlands during the VOC time and this history is still recognisable in its centre!
What makes this photo truly unique is the waterspout in the background - how amazing is that?!
