I'm so sad to read this. I love and believe in Hive, and I've been all-in for the last almost 4 years, but I've seen so many amazing people and projects leave Hive (usually for Blurt) because of abusive downvoting. Downvoting, and downvote trails, where there is no communication as to the reason, is abuse from my perspective. This is the one really big glaring reason that Hive won't be able to grow into its full potential until this issue is resolved. Every downvote must require a reason to be given, and there needs to be some kind of community oversight to review, and when necessary, nullify obviously abusive votes.
