I figured Family Day was a national holiday but apparently it is only in certain provinces.
Well, here is where it counts and our province adopted the provincial holiday as a mercifully placed long weekend in the middle of a long winter. A little break or extra day dedicated to spending time with family is a damn good thing to take advantage of. We often trek up the highway and pile the cousins into a house for some loud family time. This year, for whatever reason, we stuck close to home for some downtime nd fun.
Free Family Skate!
This year, most businesses were closed, and the remaining ones had a family day promotion of some sort to encourage people to get out and attend community events. One in particular is a new startup https://drop-in.ca we are partnering with to help promote local events and they were holding a free-skate. What nicer thing could you do for families besides providing a free, fun activity for all to enjoy?
Here are a few shots of the event from the inside.
This is a nice big group all from one family. Invited family from out of town even!
Proud parent taking photos of their skating young ones!
So many families and people of all skating levels.
Probably people from ages 2 to 92.
Good friends sharing some fun.
A young hockey fan channeling his favourite player
This little dood was decked out in full local team gear and darting everywhere through the skating crowd.
These ones were doing very well and justifiably proud of themselves.
Busy dressing rooms with so many lacers and skaters.
Here are Tyler and Peter are the new business owners behind the company and this event. You can read a little more about them here https://www.stratfordbeaconherald.com/news/local-news/stratford-business-owners-hosting-free-skate-family-day-weekend-to-introduce-new-venture-to-community
Hopefully, you have nice family holidays where you are. Even better is when there are community events put on by local businesses where hundreds of people get to enjoy a little active fun.
Happy Family Day from Canada!
