We use the sun to power our home, heat our water and cook our food. We are about 95% off the grid now on our new homestead.
I am sharing our videos and articles since our move to the new homestead to the present. This will give you the background story on our journey as we become self sufficient and off the grid on a budget. When I get you caught up, I will continue to share our daily videos and articles as we make them.
We now use the GoSun solar cooker to cook our meals on the homestead. We love this thing very much. You can have a hot meal in just half an hour in direct sunlight. It even cooks during cloudy days or rain but we prefer not to use it in the rain. If the sun is not shining directly, you just have to wait longer for your meal to cook.
It truly is free energy when cooking with this stove. Melanie loves it a lot because she says it takes way less work to make our meals. She simply puts the food in the tray and I set it up outside. The sun does the rest. No stirring or anything. This solar stove works like a dutch oven or crock pot.
I misquoted the other day when I wrote that we have 800 watts of solar power going into our off grid electronics lab and wood shop. I had 1,000 watts of solar power connected at that time. I later removed one of the panels because it was useless. The 800 watts is more than enough to top off the batteries no matter what I do out there.
Again, we have 600 watts of solar panels connected to the house at this time but we hope to expand that soon. I want to build a solar panel rack like the one by the wood shop but I need the materials for it yet.
I have a power inverter under the solar panels which gives us power in the house as needed. I cannot run the water pump off the grid yet though because it uses 240 volts.
Our electric bill is down to a mere 18 cents per day. That feels good.
I wrote an article as well with the full details here:
Using Solar Electric Energy & GoSun Solar Oven For Cooking

NOTE: Please ignore the comments below. There are a bunch of trolls who followed me over from YouTube. They will shout, rant and rave against literally everything I do. They even say our electronics shop is NOT off the grid because they claim there are no wires runing from the solar panels even though you can see them. LOL.
