The Dead Girls Story:
The girl on woman's lap is her daughter, Champi and the man beside her do-well lawyer husband. They lived in Champi's grandfather Rai Bahadur Guha's house in Mymensingh. Being too impoverished to have their own house. Champi would hang around near her grandmother in the kitchen, hoping for scraps. One day she came in very early in the morning, grandmom teased her that it was too early for breakfast and told her to go home. Later, when they went looking for her to offer her some treat that had been cooked, she refused, saying: "চম্পি খাবেনা" (Champi don't eat). Her pride had been hurt. Within days she sickened of one of the many diseases that children suffered in those days and died.
