Greetings, friends. This is the latest painting I made for an exhibition named Ancient legends and mythology of our nation.
Our nation has many mythological creatures and legends. I chose one legend about our Bulgarian mountains Rila and Pirin. This legend touched me and I decided to paint it. I used oil on canvas. I tried to create a more dramatic mood using a whole arsenal of colors from my palette.
Here is a legend telling the story.
I choose to paint the ancient legend about a young woman named Rila and a man named Pirin who fell in love and had two children. The boy named Iskar, and a girl named Mesta. Their children often argued. Pirin missed from home because he was a hunter. Rila took care of their home and the children. One day the children had argue again. Rila got angry and cursed herself to turn into a rock and the children to be separate from each other and never see again. She immediately turned into a rock. Her children turned into rivers. She also did not miss to curse her husband who has often missed from their home and did not payed attention to their children. At this time he was playing on a kaval in the mountain. Rila was cursed him not to see his children anymore. He turned into a rock and he will never see his son named Iskar, but he could see his daughter Mesta. She calmly flowed and made her father happy to see her. This is the legend about Rila and Pirin mountains and their rivers.
Have a wonderful week!
Yours,
Silviya
