You must have heard the stories about people getting junk in their shopping packages instead of the ordered products or some items missing in the food delivery.
Until today, I naively believed that these were business tactics to create negative publicity for the company. An incident or two, blown way out of proportion and limited mostly to big companies.
However, this is not true. A recently established company whose name literally translates to 'Stupid' notified me that my product was delivered. Since it was already paid for, I thought it must have been signed for by the security guard.
I went and asked the security guy as to why he didn't inform me about the package and he gave me a blank look. He told me that there was no delivery for me. I asked to look at the security camera footage, and there was no sign of any delivery guy.
I panicked a bit and immediately contacted the website's support. After a few days of back and forth communication, It was finally revealed that my delivery guy forged the signature and kept the product himself instead of actually delivering it. I got back an opened package and the company refused to return the package.
This experience has drastically changed my opinion about the convenience of online shopping as any services provided by these companies ultimately rely on the local staff and their efficiency. No matter how good a company is, you cannot guarantee anything if the employees themselves are corrupt. I had to settle with the already opened and possibly damaged products as they were marked as successfully delivered.
Here are the pictures of the product and the falsified signature. Ending rant with a simple suggestion- Get some sort of 2FA with prepaid packages because as of now it seems too easy for anyone to pickup the package simply by asking.
