Al Jazeera English is known as government-funded news channel based in Qatar. Being owned by Al-Jazeera Media Network, it was established in November 2006. Even Though, the main headquarter of the station is in Qatar, it also produces some of the segments from the London offices for more expediency. The sister networks of Al Jazeera English are AL Jazeera Mubasher, Al Jazeera Documentary Channel, Al Jazeera Balkans and AJ+.
Al Jazeera English hit the air for the first time in November 2006, although it was originally planned to air in June 2006, but rescheduled due to the late delivery of HDTV technology. They also changed the branding of the network from Al Jazeera International to Al Jazeera English at the last moment. AJE hit 80 million households right after the launch; the figure was double than the expected 40 million set by the team. Globally, AJE covers 130 million households, moreover it is available in more than 100 countries via cable or satellite.
Al Jazeera managed to pull off quite an audience in Europe and built good reputation in the market, however it didn’t get much response in United States because of having only one satellite transmission upon its launch. Although, the results were different when it entered in the market of North America and started operating. Eventually, Al Jazeera English started to expand in different US states, including Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Ohio and then finally hit the New York in August 2011. Al Jazeera E started to broadcast for the people of Canada in 2009 when Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) gave permission of the distribution of Qatar-based news station to the Bell TV, Rogers and other cable providers.
In January 2013, the parent company Al Jazeera launched AL Jazeera Unites States that will only serve the US people.
