Here's a fun song I dug out of the past for this week’s #openmic.
I clearly remember the morning I wrote this. I think it sounds pretty good on my 12-String.
I’m laughing at the start of this video because I’d done like thirty takes before getting all the way through without messing up. This is my own fault, however, since I haven’t played this song in years and the lyrics are a mouthful!
Fun song, though. A memory locked into music.
I was listening to a lot of Ani DiFranco back when I wrote this, and the lyrics have that say-what-I-want, funky, funny-sad feel to them. Here they are:
Shine Down – Original Song by Katrina Ariel
Well I like you better when you’re not so grumpy
Tryin’ to make me something I’m not,
So I go do some early spring cleanin’,
Seems the roof on the shed is starting to rot.
Awake in the morning, seems like
the first time I’ve risen to first light
And I don’t really mind silence but I’m not gonna
Fix it—this time you started the fight.
Let the sun shine down.
Let the sun shine down.
Well I’m thinkin’ bout starting off fresh
Planting seeds in the ground and watching them grow
You don’t seem like you wanna talk, don’t want to understand me
Maybe you don’t want to know.
Sometimes the only thing you can do is
Wait for the ice to thaw out
Then water comes rushing cleansing all in its path
As winter draws out.
And I feel like a strong rebel weed
Waiting in the ground for the sun to shine down.
Maybe when I learn to take in its warmth
I won’t be troubled by your frown.
Let the sun shine down.
Let the sun shine down.
Let the sun shine down.
Let the sun shine down.
Thank you for supporting Steemit musicians!
There are sooooo many talented musicians here, and contests are a fantastic place to find them and support their work.
This post is my entry for Steemit Open Mic, which is sponsored by ,
, and some other excellent witnesses sweetening the prize pool. Find more posts on the #openmic hashtag.
There’s also a BRAND NEW Art of Music Contest sponsored by , which has a different theme for each round. Round #2 just started. Last week’s theme was Jazz, and this week it’s 80’s music. Should be fun. ;) Find more posts using the tag: #artofmusic.
