This is the first Open Mic I've done since the Great Steemit Exodus. Very excited to introduce myself to this new community, although I've already seen some familiar faces here.
This week's "Four Directions" theme put me in a travelling mood. Unfortunately, I'm asthmatic and most having to stay close to home while our C-19 numbers in Nashville, TN are quite high still. It's particularly difficult not being able to share studio spaces and stages with our musical collaborators and audiences right now. I have been doing any streaming performances etc. because, frankly, it's such a pale comparison to the real thing.
That said, discovering all the energy happening here on the Hive chain has got me excited to share my music with all of you since many of us are so far away from one another this is just the same old normal for the blockchain.
This is a song about a band in a van -- a traveling tune, a road song. It's about the insomnia of working at night and travelling during the day. Red-eye gravy is a Southern recipe for frying ham or bacon in a pan and then deglazing it with a cup of black coffee before pouring it over scrambled eggs or grits.

lyrics
Red-eye gravy won’t you save me
From the morning sun
This ol’ night is ending
And this new day has begun
I make my stand with a rockin’ band
In a fast van on the run
Red-eye gravy won’t you save me from
The morning sun
The show in Tuscaloosa it was looser than law
Woke up nearing Mobile to a crow out on the caw
We flew through Alabama, a quick fiddle on the draw
Made the scene in New Orleans, seen things you never saw
We went down to Memphis town when we got the blues
What a shock in Little Rock with nothing left to lose
We had to back track through Mackinac and Detroit felt like home
We spend the year shiftin gears, ramblin' on the roam
And it's one shift, two shift, three shift, four
Pull down the shade and lock up the door
Yellow light, red light, green light too
I’d drive all night to get home to you
(Oh you know its true)
In that City of Angels I swear we found a few
We got lost in Vegas where we found the devil too
From heaven to hell and back again, big city and little town
We raise a glass to each place we pass then put that hammer down’
