Walkin' Cain
I couldn't stay away! A last minute entry of a song that I have not practiced or played in quite a while... My voice is still painful/weak but it occurred to me that this was one I might be able to perform because there are not really any high notes. Not my best performance of this song by any means, but I think I may have a recording that I did years ago. I will upload it when I find it!
It happens to me sometimes that I write a song and then after it is done I realize that either the title is a play on words or the lyrics, or both.
This song happened one night when I saw about ten minutes of a Public Television special called something like "Walking the Bible" (I may or may not have been interacting with a sacred plant at the time)... a guy was talking about the stories in the bible and was on the ground in the Middle East pointing out real places that correlated to the passages.
This is not something that would normally interest me so after hearing him talk about the story of Cain and Able and all that, I turned it off.
Well as happens to me sometimes, this got stuck in my head somewhere and this blues tune came out. When it was done I realized that the title is a play on the folk song "Walking Cane". I have never actually heard the song but a friend sang a verse of it to me once and I remember the first line was "take me down my walking cane"...
I come down
A walkin' Cain
I been around
Had my way
To Canaan lord
I cast my eye
The road is long
The air is dry
I come down
Bring me here
A skin of wine
My love the Earth
The desert sky
I come down
To this land
I come down
Hell yeah
A walkin' Cain
Peace
