Not so long ago I discovered one of my friends with an absolute love for music - electronic music in particular, with techno and closely related variants specifically - did a (field) research regarding the appreciation of different music genres outside the 'comfort zone' of music fans. She specifically concentrated on EDM, House, Trance music fans and their openness towards Techno; as well as Techno music fans and their openness to EDM, Trance and House music styles. From the field research she carried at a set of music festivals, she discovered:
EDM, Trance and House fans are in general having an openmind and are positive towards the Techno music style
Techno fans are less open and positive towards EDM, Trance and House music styles; Those who are in more quality Techno, are the least open and positive about EDM, Trance and House music styles
The research results made me think about this topic quite a bit. I'm a big techno fan and I'm pretty critical, meaning even in the Techno segment, a lot of the music produced and played at parties I don't really like. I asked myself the question: "Do I belong to those who are not openminded towards EDM, Trance and House styles?" I like to believe I don't fall into that category. I like to believe I'm openminded towards these styles. I try to have an openmind to anything in life, also in music. Sure, some music styles I don't like too much, but it doesn't mean I cannot appreciate such style. With regard to the researched styles, I don't like EDM, but I can't say I listen to most EDM. On the flip side, I do like good House and Trance music!
How Openminded are you Towards Music Outside your 'Comfort Zone'?
For some entertainment, I've included a short video below.
The video is a 2 minute video clip I discovered today, posted by a channel dedicated to EDM, OnlyEdmTV (Youtube channel).
