Today we moved around 1000 more sleeping bags plus some flash lights and matresses from the storage south of Warszawa to another storage. That's all, more or less. We were half an hour too late to the other storage, a truck heading for Ukraine had just left when we arrived. I'm a bit disappointed, we could have been working more efficient. Quite much time was lost as we first considered that we didn't need to bring flashlights, then got told that flashlights were needed just when the truck was completely filled up by sleeping bags. The weather was nice at least, working topless for the first day of the year.
The idea of purchasing a minibus is dead - not enough refugees left, and the driver has managed to raise enough money for an offroader so he can get closer to the front line. Anyway, Jaroslaw has managed to source a really cheap caravelle with nine seats - though we haven't picked it up yet.
Some accounting ... donations (income):
- 50 kNOK - designated a minibus
- 3 kNOK - designated humanitarian aid (not military aid)
- 10 kNOK
- 16 kNOK
- 1 kNOK - received by bank
78 kNOK cash exchanged into 37128 PLN, and 1 kNOK in the bank.
Since we're not going to buy a minibus, we can only spend 13328 of the cash without asking for permission from the donator to spend more.
Money spent (costs):
- PLN 300 - petrol money for transporting some confused refugees from Warszawa to Suwalki and back again (we got told that we shouldn't blame them - people in shock can't always think straight).
- PLN 400 - rent of big van for 48 hours
- PLN 2000 - caravelle with 9 seats (not paid yet)
- PLN 20 - purchase of some D-size batteries for the flashlights, yet another waste of money as they didn't fit into the flashlight (we think it's a design fault).
- The big van needs a full tank of diesel (not paid yet)
We have too many missions for tomorrow:
- Pick up yet another 1000 sleeping bags in Warszawa
- Pick up 14 Ukrainians at the border
- Find accomodation for 14 Ukrainians
- Transport some food supplies
- Pick up a caravelle
We have to work a lot more efficient tomorrow than today if we are to manage even half of that.
