Cripes: how many months have I been revelling in the great bounty of a variety of oranges from the multiple gardens below my house?!
Several, is my answer. I've just cropped even more GORGEOUSLY RICH RED blood oranges and some cute wee mandarini from the trees directly below here, and some sweeter paler big ones from a couple of gardens down...
Being more attent to the oranges this year - blessed by the actual 'owners' of the gardens not visiting to maintain them - I've very much noticed the subtle taste differences as the seasons pass.... I almost always pick ones that have naturally fallen down, and especially now - there being less on the trees - the flavours are more complex and deep.
The fruits have also brought a beautifulbounty of connection, as I've visited older neighbours and shared them freelly. It's a glorious occupation; just being aware of what is plentiful nearby, accepting the Gifts, and sharing them liberally around!
