Pan is the great horned goat diety of panic represented by the number zero. Story goes he had an affinity for the attractive but coy nymphs that habitated the forests and marshlands, the panic ol half goat half devil man caused many a nymph to become easy prey to his wonton lascvious sexual aptitude. A certain nymph named Syrinx had been hunted methodically by horny pan and she begged the spirits of the water to transform her into the reeds next to the river stream, they did. However sly cunning pan had been voyeur to the deal and walked over to the failed camofluaged Syrinx snipped her at the stems and proceeded to bore new holes where there had never been before.
Laughing malicious thouroughly amused he formed the reeds into what we know as pan pipes. A strange violent origin story for music indeed. Syrinx etymology is that it is a hollow tube. Often used in medicine and physiology. The modern day syringe is derived from syrinx.
