Hello, steemians, and welcome to the studio, eh!
This is my latest song, just finished and uploaded to soundcloud. The words to this song were written as a poem by , you can see her post of the poem here.

I changed a couple of the words to better fit the music, and arranged the words into verses to fit the song format, but that was the only changes that I made to her poem. This was done with her permission, of course.
The first thing I did was to come up with a chord progression that I thought would fit the mood of the poem. Once I had the basics figured out, I started the recording process, using Audacity. I found a drum beat that seemed to work pretty well for the timing that I wanted for the song and recorded it into a track on Audacity, and then built the rest of the song around the drum track. I used my friend's Fender Princeton Reverb amp to play the guitar parts with lots of reverb, and recorded the amp with my handy dandy new Shure SM-57 microphone that was given to me by a very generous and kind person.
As you might have noticed, my studio is a bit cluttered...
Here's my basic recording setup.
I recorded the bass guitar using my old Fender Princeton amp and the SM-57 mic, using my old Peavey Patriot bass guitar. Then I recorded the main vocal using my live performance vocal mic, an Audio Technica Pro-5. I also recorded a harmony vocal using the same setup.
The last thing I recorded was a basic lead run for the song, using my Princeton amp turned up a bit to get a better sound from the amp. This amp was modified and it gets a bit more warmth and drive than the unmodified amp does.
After messing with the mix and trying different things, I finally came to a point where I decided that I probably shouldn't mess with it anymore, and just call it finished. I tend to dwell on little things, being over picky, and sometimes, good enough is. And so, here is the soundcloud link to the song.

The SBD from this post will be split with Stacey for letting me use her poem for this song.
