( A visitor we had on our first day out )
It's been a wee while since my last post and I've been having fun this school holidays and spending some time with the kiddos - fishing a lot, eating, drinking and being very merry too ( I'll definitely need to jump on the treadmill when work starts back up!! ).
Anyway, with the great weather we've been having here in New Zealand, I managed to get a leave pass from the wife and get out onto the big briney with my eldest daughter for an over night stay on the boat, just north of Auckland, at Kawau Island in the Hauraki Gulf.
We loaded up with the bbq, food for a week and some bait for fishing and then we were off
My daughter just before we left to Kawau from Sandspit
Here's where we left from, and where we went to before anchoring for the night ( the pin is where we anchored )
Kawau Island was the destination, but not before a spot of fishing for dinner
The fishing was slow at first, but then my daughter landed her first snapper for the table ( a very proud dad here!! )
These birds wouldn't leave our burley trail alone and my daughter managed to get this sweet underwater video of them diving
After a couple of hours fishing un-anchored we had a visitor to the boat, I had my go pro with me, so............
A short finned Mako Shark, about 100kgs
All in all a good day, night, day away with my eldest daughter - we also saw 2 whales and some dolphins just to top it off on our way home!
