There isn't a city in the United States more recently annoying than Portland, Oregon. From rock throwing rioters and demonstrators who can't explain their incoherent gibberish to shutting down restaurants because of "cultural appropriation." These types further dig a trench to live in isolating themselves from sane modern day society. I hold many different positions that may surprise some people across the spectrum however nothing is more cumbersome or makes me (in addition to many others) groan more than the nonsense of cultural appropriation. If taken to its illogical end it would by definition shut down all of society being that it is idiotic.
Two caucasian women from Portland opened up a burrito restaurant called Kooks. Apparently they used some of the information they had learned from a trip to Mexico where they learned some tricks of the trade concerning making tortillas, ingredients, how to make a decent burrito. They used some or a lot (who really cares) of their knowledge to open shop. Public outcry ensued of cultural appropriation of Mexican culture I'm sure gauged in a incoherent tirade of "greedy capitalism" and what not. Portland seems to be filled with these "Starbucks Marxists." Contradictory positions all around. I thought, learning about culture and bringing it here was a good thing. I guess that only applies when a leftist professor is receiving a check for spewing drivel. If you don't like start-ups leave a capitalist country is my opinion. It could have provided jobs one day but not now because of our bitter social justice warriors. Or better yet move to Portland where fake issues to be offended by seem to be a dime a dozen and everyone is apparently miserable. If you don't like burritos no matter who is making or eating them there isn't something wrong with the burrito or them...there's something wrong with you. :) That's about all for now.
