Rented a Kayak this Monday to paddle on the Carmans river in Yaphank / Shirley Long Island, NY.
So grab a paddle and ..... LETS GO.
Started out just south of Sunrise Highway where the river is dammed and heading south Through Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge. Minimum rental time was an hour and a half, but the nice guy running the place let me have 2 hours.
Map shows where I started and an "F" where I finished going down stream. But it was really only halfway because I had to paddle back up against the light current to get where I started. I needed the full 2 hours to make the trip.
This was my very first time in a Kayak. I have been in Canoes but never a Kayak. It was very stable once you were seated, just getting in and out was a little new to me.
Big and small turtles near the bank, some about a foot across.
After going under the second bridge where many Swallow birds had their nests the river opened up into a large shallow like lake.
Caught a couple of Swans trying to get some sleep till I came along.
Got down to the leaning Osprey nest where the "F" on the map is and where I dropped my Canon camera in the water. So no more pictures on this #paddlewithme.
After I got back, had lunch then shot over to Riverhead and bought a new camera. This one is water and shock proof. Then went to Dick's and bought a Pelican Kayak on sale for $179.
Lose some win some
#paddlewithme is a take off of .... #walkwithme
