IRNA reports that it has reduced cooperation for Palestinian refugees. However, no details have been released in this regard. Last year, the UAE established diplomatic relations with Israel through the mediation of the administration of US President Donald Trump. Since then, the country has reduced its allocation for Palestine at the United Nations. The UNRWA is providing education, health care and other facilities to the 5.7 million registered Palestinian refugees who fled the Middle East during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. The UAE is considered to be one of the donor countries of the organization. On Friday, UNRWA spokesman Sami Masasha said the UAE had allocated only 10 million by 2021. However, he hopes that in 2021 he will give grants again as in previous years.
Earlier, in September 2016, then-US President Donald Trump announced a halt to financial aid for Palestinian refugees scattered across the Middle East. About 5 million Palestinians are currently registered with the United Nations as refugees. Most of them live in Jordan, the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Syria, Lebanon and East Jerusalem. One-third of them live in refugee camps.
