Twice a year we are blessed with a transfer window in football! I really like to read all the rumors and fan comments on these! Some teams think that they have found the new Messi or Ronaldo. Other's want to get ride of players which they thought were going to be the new stars but failed and so on.
The problem most teams have is that the competition already starts before the transfer window ends! So a lot of player do start the season with a team not knowing if they will end it there!
This is something strange!
So the Premier League decided as first Major competition that the transfer window for incoming transfer has to be closed before the first game of the season will kick off! That is how it should be done!
But this decision gives the transfer market a complete different dimension!
Let’s assume that at the moment the Premier League is at the moment the richest competition of them all. They do fund most all other teams outside of England with fresh money which then can be used by them on the transfermarket!
Normally all funds are saved by until the end of the transfer window, hoping on some bargains! But now we will have 2 interesting days. It start next Thursday when the incoming transfer window for the English clubs will close. The next one is on the second of September when the European market will close!
This of course has consequences.
I have never seen so many outgoing transfers out of England of rather good players. There have been times that only the big start were willing to play in the Premier League or at for example Real, Barca, Juventus and maybe Bayern! Yes PSG shows that you buy every player if you are wealthy enough but that you can’t buy a Champions League Trophy!
Which makes this transfer market also interesting are the financial fair play rules! I have never seen so many swap of players! I do want to have that player and I do offer you in return player X or/and Y with an extra fee!
We had the swap sage of Lukaku and Dybala. But this deal was rejected by Dybala based on image rights. With other words he didn’t want to go. But now Dybala has the interest of PSG if Neymar will leave the club. Inter on the other side now has the believe again that they could sign Lukaku! Juventus on the other hands are not trying to convince Manchester United for a swap of 3 players for Pogba. But Pogba wants to join Real!
Very interesting to follow all of this!
And then we also have players who will enter the final year of their contract! Some of them don’t want to sign a new contract so the club is more or less forced to sell them! Tottenham have 2 of these players with Alderweireld and Eriksen. Alderweireld is happy to stay an extra year at the club! Still strange that nobody did want to buy him for the bargain price of only 27M British Pond!
And they we do have the clubs with a transfer ban like Chelsea. They already know that this was coming so they decided to buy the replacement of Hazard in the winter transfer window!
Things will heat up in the coming days! They we will see a cooldown period before it heats up again!
But it is safe to say that they money used is absurd! If I only look at Belgium. They did break the outgoing transfer fee record! The clubs in the first division have sold players for a staggering €207M!
But also they incoming transfer do prove that they are forced or not afraid to invest the incoming money again! In total the Belgian Clubs did spend € 104M. So a profit of more then €100M.
The Premier League has a negative balance of -668,40 Mill. €. Only 3 competitions are doing better at the moment than the Jupiler Pro League! The Ligue 1 has a positive balance of 277,01 Mill. €, the Portuguese LIGA has a balance of 197,85 Mill. € and the Eredivisie made a profit of 184,23 Mill. € (mainly Ajax!).
Exiting 2 more days ahead of us!
Cheers,
Peter
