On the 21st of July 1969 Neil Armstrong became the first man to set foot on another world. The Moon. I was 13 years old and watched the whole thing and became a lunatic.
I have been kind of mildly obsessed with the Moon ever since and have filmed it in several locations around the world.
A lunatic by the way was not someone with a mental illness but someone who was interested in the Moon and a member of one of the many clubs and societies that were interested in science and technology in the 17th & 18th century.
The Lunar Societyhad some very interesting members including. Matthew Boulton and James Watt (steam engine pioneers) Josiah Wedgewood (pottery magnate) and Erasmus Darwin (Grandfather of Charles Darwin (evolution).
The membership reads like a who's who of the industrial revolution.
The Moon over the rooftops
This photograph of the Moon in cloud is a composite of two images. I took them both with a 50 mm lens. The image of the Moon was tiny but I magnified it and placed it behind the rooftops using photoshop to get this effect.

The Moon in real time
I shot this video of the Moon in real time and if you watch it you will see just how fast we are travelling in relation to it's movement. It's not a timelapse. It is one of my favorite videos of all time.
A Gibbous Moon is where the Moon is growing in brightness but is still partially in shadow. A waning Moon is where more is in shadow. This film shows the Moon in real time moving surprisingly fast. It's not until you try to film it that you realise just how fast it is actually travelling.
The term Gibbous relates to the phase of the Moon, where more than 50% of the surface is illuminated by the Sun.
This period gives us the best opportunity to view the craters of the Moon, as the shadows throw the craters into stark relief against the lighter background.
What you are seeing is the actual passage of the Moon in real time. Moving at 2,288 MPH or (3,683 KPH relative to the Earth)
Our constant companion.

I know that some of you may have seen this video as I have posted it before but it seemed perfect to celebrate this major leap forward for mankind on the Moon landing anniversary. #sublimesunday #beautifulsunday #moon #steem :-)
Have a great week ahead folks.
