Ordering books online is a tricky thing. Yes, you get a product description and the front cover to go by but it's really nothing like physically flipping through the pages and seeing what it's actually like.
But if you're like me and like to live life on the edge 😜. Buying books online is a bit like a lucky dip. You have a vague idea but you're not really sure until you open the package.
Because of this we have a few basic criterias when selecting books online for Bella.
- Must be colourful! Being artistically inclined, I want her little eyes to feast on colours and different colour combinations. Spiritually wise, colours help energize her chakras and that's something Hubby and I both think about
- Unicorns and Llamas.. Are usually considered "Must Haves". I like unicorns, Hubby likes llamas to compromise we get her both.
- Bonus Points If it has special features like "Touchy Feely", or like these ones "Push, Pull, Slide".
- No more than $10 per book. This is because we are basically taking a gamble on a book she would only be into for a few months.
Another thing I look out for are the series. If the book is part of a series that's usually an indication that it's going to be a decent book. Books generally don't get serialized if the first book was a disaster.
The 'My Magical' Series
By Campbell Books is truly magical.
Not only does it have cute and vibrant pages, it also rhymes AND has an interactive aspect to it where you can push, pull or slide a part of the page to see what the character is up to.
Because of the interactive parts I feel this book, for us, is best with supervision.
Our little Bella isn't the gentlest thing. We have dubbed her "destructo baby" since she seems to mow through things and obstacles, and generally approaches things full strength. Knowing her, she would rip this book in no time.
However, as a read together sort of book, I think these are brilliant. Having the push, pull and slide parts really do add a touch of wonder to these books that even got Hubby and me ooooing and ahhhhhing over them.
I don't know what the other books in this series is like but these two are a lot of fun.
Would I recommend them?
Hells yeh I would! I feel these books can be enjoyed for a while. First stage would be for it to be read by Mum and Dad with Mum or Dad doing the sliding etc. Then when bub's older she/he can do that part. Plus there's a short story ~ that rhymes. Over time, by repetition, maybe bub will eventually memorize the story?
Campbell Books actually have a lot of baby book series that also have the "Push, Pull & Slide" feature. I'm particularly interested in the 'First Stories' series ~ think classic fairy tales with a push, pull and slide option. 🤯
I hope you found this blog helpful. I'm kinda of obsessed with baby books at the moment so I'll be reviewing more of them in the future.
If you have a favourite children's book please let me know in the comments. We can never get enough book recommendations.
That's all for now!
Good night everyone!
