Many people doubt that gluten is as big of a deal as it is, but for those of us who get "glutened", it can be a miserable thing to experience - especially during a holiday.
We have NO wheat flour in our house, so when I cook in my house, I know that what I serve is completely gluten free. In other places, it's difficult to be 100% certain. Even small amounts of gluten can be detrimental to gluten-sensitive people.
I'm not sure where I was "glutened" this past week, but the four migraines over 5 days is usually a strong indicator (for me) that it has snuck past the guards and gotten into my system.
As I woke up to head to the continental breakfast that our hotel offers, I was ready to see a lot of bread, pancakes, waffles, bagels, muffins, and a lot of other contaminated things that have probably been dusted with wheat just for kicks! 😂 They even had those homemade waffles that I used to have fun making fresh for me and my kids!
That's why it was SUCH a relief to see this!
Of course, hotels don't have to make these kind of accommodations. They provide fruit, hard boiled eggs, coffee and teas. A simple breakfast is all that they need to provide for people with dietary restrictions. But it is that little extra appreciation for their guests with dietary needs that take it from a nice hotel stay to a SPECIAL stay!
For breakfast, I had an omelet, potatoes, sausage, orange juice.... (which would have been PLENTY!!!) but this was icing on the cake! 😍
I couldn't use the toaster, so I just heated it in the microwave. (yes, there really are enough crumbs in the regular toaster to cause a reaction!) Udi's has their bagels individually wrapped to protect from cross-contamination. My hubby had the blueberry granola bar with his meal, and he enjoyed it.
So, my fellow gluten freeks 😉- if you're looking for a mid-range hotel that is sensitive to YOUR sensitivities.... Best Western Plus chains are usually very accommodating!!! We've always been very happy with our stays there!
Just a little tip for ya!
