I've been camping out on Cheatham lake for years now. Part of the TVA expansion during the 1960's, it sits above a dam and has provided a site for many revelries over the decades.
We used to camp on a sandbar in the middle of it, much to the authorities chagrin, but eventually my father bought a small plot of land down one of the inlets.

We've built it up over the years, creating a good place for car-camping, as it's called. While not as romantic as hiking out to the woods, it's much more family friendly, with power for CPAPs and a deep freeze for perishables. We built a large cinderblock BBQ pit and frequently cook banquets for friends and family. Lots of neighbours often come with drinks and dishes and a backwoods potluck bacchanal ensues. 🤗
My father used to build a 30' teepee each spring, in the manner of the Plains Native Americans before a greedy land grabber tried to have the city seize our land because of it being an "eyesore". ". #meanpeoplesuck
That landgrabber is still at it, causing people trouble and then buying up land cheap with an idiotic scheme of building a gated-community in a flood zone. Because what this idiot doesn't know is that the floods are going to come more and more, bigger and stronger in decades to come. Aunt Lili will see to it, because fair is fair. 😈
So yesterday my father and I drove down and tied down our boats, loading some useful equipment onto them so it wouldn't wash away. The was about a 1/4 inch of water above one road and another 4ft on the way before the week is out.
I have more pictures on the way, so check back later.
