Well it’s that time of the year...Graduation Season......and it’s become big business for party planners and decorating manufacturing companies. What happened to the simple BBQ in the backyard and inviting your classmates and family over for a few hours? Time sure has passed me by because after attending several high school graduation parties this past weekend it was astonishing to me how much money gets spent on decorating, colored candy, elaborated picture displays, banners, posters and just about everything else you can think of. When did it go this far? I can’t remember one single friend who had a party anywhere close to what it thrown now days and that’s not even including the drinks and food.
The kids today have such official looking and professional invitations made to send out that it just makes you wonder what the total bill is for parents to host one of these parties. I saw huge outdoor tents, portable bathrooms and even live entertainment for some of these get togethers. It just seems as if the bar is getting raised higher and higher for parents to throw these parties, I just wonder where the breaking point is and when it just becomes wasteful. I saw so much “fluff” at every single party that parents were offering all the decorations to other kids and parents who’s party had not yet happened. I guess the lesson is......hold your party 3-4 weeks AFTER graduation because you get a lot of stuff for free and the hard work has already been done.
