One of the most important of the Halloween is the cat, the black cat actually.
Have you ever wonder why such a cute creature is usually associated to creepy events?
An explanation would be the fact that cats are ladies favourites. And of course, witches scared people for centuries. I suppose this is the human nature: when we don't understand something, we tend to blame the supernatural.
Another explanation for this connection between cats and Halloween can be found in a very old Celtic legend: Cat Sith and Samhain.

According to the Celtic mythology, Cat Siths are fairy creatures looking like big black cats with a white patch on their chest. These strange creatures haunt the Scottish Highlands in search for souls being very active during the Samhain. They bless the houses where they find treats (a saucer of milk) and put a curse on those who refuse to treat. 😉

Other Scottish folklore suggests that Cat Sith is a witch that can turn into a cat nine times. The final changing is final and the witch is stuck in the feline form.

These are only few of the legends surrounding the cats. Should we fear them or love them? I choose the first option. And I think it's a good choice, as the Chinese wisdom confirms:
Black cat or white cat: If it can catch mice, it's a good cat.
