It's a Hobbit hole! Who didn't read that and immediately think of a Hobbit hole? If you didn't, you need some culture.
Imagine your roof being part of your garden. Not like the folks in New York that put raised beds on the roof of their skyscrapers, but like you built a house underneath your garden. This is pretty cool. My mind is wandering to water catchment systems fed by swales on the roof.
Matter of fact, this would fit really well in a system like I've been daydreaming about for a week or so. I've been imagining a village with natural humans, not registered, just born. I imagine them in the woods with medicinal herb gardens and with chickens roaming the village cleaning up, making eggs, and fertilizing the soil in the entire village. With the community being interdependent and holistic. This kind of structure easily fits in that image.
It's like a hugelkultur bed that you live in!
