"Waterlilies and Damselflies"
The name 'damselfly' comes from the French word demoiselle, which means maiden. People often confuse damselflies with dragonflies, but if you look closely, you can see that damselflies hold their 4 wings parallel towards each other. You can also tell them apart by the slender physical torso of the damselfly compared to the dragonfly.
Damselflies (and dragonflies) in an area are very helpful in telling us whether an ecosystem is healthy or not. They are also especially healthy to have around to keep mosquito populations down as they are carnivores.
Interestingly enough, the damselfly has many different names around the world:
sewing needles
snake doctors
horse stingers
mosquito hawks
