Here are a list of things that are slowly being phased out.
Land lines. Yes while there are still phones, they are more often cellular or internet based lines.
Cable. Indeed OTT and VOD services like Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime are eliminating the need for the traditional cable services. People used to view by appointment and that appointment was set by the networks. Then came DVRs which recorded the show so that people could do what they needed to do and let them watch at a later time. Then came streaming which basically held the archives so you could binge watch an entire series in one sitting at your leisure!
Newspapers. I only know they still are in print because I saw one the other day at a coffee shop. For the most part, that same news is produced at a subscription rate if not free online.
Check-out clerks. Those who actually go to a brick and mortar establishment are being pushed toward “self check-out” and self-service.Kiosks are replacing the clerks.
Offices. The days are telecommuting will not be ignored! But that’s true of several industries. Billing, data entry, advertising, stock trading, insurance, banking, real estate… all of these industries don’t necessarily require an office out of which to operate.
Malls. What on earth is a mall compared to Amazon? YES, you do get to have the goods right then and there. YES, you can try it on first to see if it actually fits. But its not even close.
So while unhinged Republicans are sniveling over immigrants “stealing their jobs” the truth is, many jobs are just being phased out. If it isn’t being outsourced, it’s being automated. And if it’s not either of those things, it’s being replaced entirely.
Thoughts? Thanks
