Rejection hurts! It is such an intense negative emotion generally felt by everyone at some time in their lives. Who can forget the encounter whether it is in childhood years, the teenage years or adult years when laughed at, when excluded, bullied or put down? The consequences can be enormously devastating psychologically, emotionally and mentally to those who experience ongoing bullying online, at school or in the workforce.
How we deal with it at the time and later on is a personal individual thing. One prominent universal factor for one and all is the long lasting memory of the incident or incidents. How to manage these memories vary from individual to individual. Another important and perhaps more productive factor is learning to never be in this situation again. Like once stung never stung again. We effectively put up filters for different individuals. How much we show off ourselves is a selective filtering decision. It is a self preservation thing and who can blame anyone for being cautious with others until they get to know them well enough to trust whatever they say will be accepted and respected.
Presenting with a polite social face, a colleague or worker's face, a good friend's face or at home with a supportive family face is very normal. We all do it because speaking your truth, showing the real you with your spiritual, atheist or political beliefs can be a minefield with some. So testing the waters and getting to know others makes sound sense unless you do not mind being talked down, criticised or perhaps rejected.
The one good thing about growing older is the developing of wisdom, understanding of ourselves and acceptance of others. We learn to listen, stay calm and have our say keeping the conversation civil. Perhaps it could be said that the feelings of rejection felt at sometime in our lives is important learning.
And hopefully for those individuals who have bullied, ridiculed and treated others badly have also learned to be kinder respecting other's opinions. We can all err and we can only get better.
Happy Tuesday folks
Cheers and Blessings
