The Time Has Come Where I Return And Starting Teaching Young Children. I'm Absolutely Elated!
As some of you may know I currently teach at a Primary School which is equivalent to an Elementary School in America (I think). I don't mind the job as it is pretty easy and I like interacting with kids.
However, the only downside with a Primary School teacher is the low pay that teachers have over here. At my current job, I get paid around Β£20,532 every year which is below the average salary in the UK which is Β£27,600. This makes life that little bit harder when paying for everyday necessities like rent, food, gas and electricity etc.. but I somehow get by. ( I just wish my salary when up with everything inflating in price )
This explains why I have been able to post and comment so much as I've pretty much had around a month and a half break and I've devoted most of my time on on the one hand looking for a way to have better financial security. My activity will significantly drop due to my teaching, but I'll still try to make a post every day. Thank you to all those who support them as the money generated goes way further than just buying materialistic goods.
Will Technology Seize My Job?
I guess this may be one of the scariest thoughts for a teacher and one that we hear on a day to day basis, and it is believed to be the most detrimental to the progress of education technology.
There is concrete evidence that shows that human contact is indeed fundamental for the intellectual, psychological, and emotional development of students. I don't think AI could replicate the interactions we currently do but maybe they will the have capabilities to replicate our activities, but I don't know how well it will do trying to recreate emotional attachments.
However, this doesn't mean that we should look down upon technology as it still has tremendous ways to enhance technology. There is also evidence that illustrates how traditional teaching methodologies can be improved significantly by the integration of technology. I believe we should mix the best of both worlds.
The solution is the blended model which is already being implemented in many schools around the world but repressed in some. This is the model where we don't replace the teacher, but instead, provide them with tools to better their methods and thereby better learning outcomes for their students. Blended learning is what I believe will win as things move forward.
Is Online School Better Than Conventional Schooling
Another system that I have seen people propose is online teaching for students. Online education where on one hand provides students with countless comforts, at the same time also has developed some implications that has drawn up some unfavourable effects on their overall lifestyle of the students.
I think that online education will unequivocally deprive the student of the extracurricular and other physically proactive activities. Just walking to school for some people acts as a way to get the heart rate up and do some sort of exercise rather than sitting dormant somewhere.
It is useful for lectures, homework problems, and for assistance. When I was younger, I've watched some very good online conferences and sometimes taught myself the theory of a subject if I didn't understand something at school or nothing productive was done in class.
With that said, exams should be done in real time to avoid cheating. I've taken online quizzes and exams, and the incentives to try and learn are greatly diminished as you are sat in front of a computer which can give you any answer you need. However, online education has the potential to improve education quality and reduce the cost.
