We have that system in Germany. Merkel was chancellor for 16 years I think, until she stepped down voluntarily. Every system has it's pros and cons, but if I look at the current "democracy", I don't see many informed voters, in the contrary - they are, as you say, informed by LLMs. It's basically impossible today to be an real citizen, to stay informed about everything.
And some governments don't even care anymore. It's impressive how a lot of parties don't even make publicity with their concrete ideas on how they want to change things, but with dumbed down empty slogans. And even worse, a lot of people wouldn't even understand things if the politicians communicated otherwise. Spiraling down...
