Prostitution is one of the serious problems of Nepal. This morning when i go through newspaper, i came to see the news about girls trafficking and it terrified me. It is said that about 5000 girls are sold every year through different ways in Nepal.
From rural areas, illiterate girls, who are suffering from poverty are brought to cities by brokers on the pretext of good jobs. They are sold specially in various cities of India and forced to become a prostitute in a brothel. They have to serve many clients in a day.
They are not allowed to go outside. When such innocent young girls suffer from AIDS and other serve disease, then they are sent back to their home empty handed. They are not accepted by their family and society. They are ignored and hated.
Similarly some brokers bring innocent girls from remote villagers and sell them in factories of cities and towns. Such girls or women also have very difficult life because they have to work long hours with less wages.
Preventions:
1. Prostitution is an illegal act. It is essential to increase public awareness by joining hands among the conscious citizens and being active from every sector.
2. Meeting, marches and slogans can also increase public awareness. We can aware people by pulishing articles in newspapers.
3. Public should give pressure to the government for discouraging girl trafficking.
4. Information should reach to school teacher in the villages so they can make people aware of this crime. Many possible victims can protect themselves if they know how traffickers tempt them and what happens after that.
So it is not only important to rescue them from the brothels, it is equally important to rehabilitate them in the society. I think girls should be provided with a good employment opportunity. The government, general people and girls themselves should work together to fight against this social evil.
