There can be only one God, the creator. He gave us free will so that we can choose to do the right thing or not, he will not force us otherwise we become automatons. Consider if he appeared to you in all his glory, could you say "No" to him. That is why we have to work out for ourselves whether to follow or not. God puts forward the best way for us.
