The following quote is taken from Epictetus' The Handbook,
"Do not seek to have events happen as you want them to, but instead want them to happen as they do happen, and your life will go well."
This is one of my favorite quotes by a well-known philosopher because it limits our expectations of events that happen in our life. We don't create false hope on things out of our control nor do we worry about future outcomes.
This is not to say that we shouldn't dream and think about the future because you should, but this is saying instead that we should surrender our dream and goals and be happy with how events come to us on our pursuit of the end goal.
Success isn't a straight shot. There are times that will draw you back, resist you from going forward, obstacles to overcome. But those obstacles just mean you're on the right path.
