Magic is about influence, the art of influence at it's base. Entertainment magic influences through deception to trick the audience for entertainment purposes.
The base of the art of influence is done through language, words and images. These are forms of symbolic imagery, conveying images of reality or unreality. The etymological root of magic means to be able, to have power; the power to influence how others perceive (real or unreal), think and act. Influence in consciousness can lead to behavior in existence. Writing, speech and other behavior can influence others.
We can influence reality -- and influence others in reality -- through our use of symbols, whereby the speech/word/logos is the magic/heka (magickal/meaningful speech, art of the mouth), the activation of our ka/power ("spirit"-essence-nature-consciousness) through the action of our speech that influences others in reality. Through such power from consciousness, we can affect things in existence/reality. This is how language is word magic to influence, create, manifest, generate or change things in reality.
Words are a reflection of concepts in consciousness, concepts that in turn reflect real or imaginary things. Some concepts are causally linked to the actions we perform, the behavior in the world. Speaking influences the conceptual understanding of reality and can alter the behaviors engaged in reality, through modification of our axioms and cares/desires that drive and motivate us to act and behave in life.
Our moral essence-nature-character is a reflection of who we are now, which is output into reality as the behavior we engage in. Everything you hear or see has the potential to influence and affect you. Everything you say or do has the potential to influence and affect others and their behavior.
The objective external reality has us an others in it. Reality is affected by us all as we output action-behavior into it. Our actions then reciprocate back to affect and influence us all in turn, as a cycle of life, the Wheel of Life, the Wheel of Time, Fortune, Fate, Destiny, Dharma and Karma. This is the magic of ourselves and reality. We influence reality and others - others and reality influence us. This is the magic of life.

Reality is the primacy of existence to affect and influence us as consciousness. Consciousness is the power to affect and influence reality. We are the creators and generators of our individual subjective inner reality; of the thoughts, emotions and actions that we generate and experience. We influence objective reality, and therefore the subjective reality that others experience as well, who then influence our experience through the reciprocal feedback loop of existence-consciousness (as far as the human artificial world we create within the pre-existing world/reality we did not create).
We are co-creators of the human world we have made (not all of reality), we are each "gods" and creators within our own internal consciousness (thoughts, imagination), capable of creating, changing and affecting the human world we live in that would not exist without us acting to make it what it is. This is the power and ability of magic to influence ourselves, each other, and the world we create together.
