Not everything is mere 'opinion' or 'feeling'. Things are. Right and wrong behavior exists and can be differentiated as such.
Speaking the truth about the wrongs that are occurring around us directly, or in the world at large, is required for people to become aware of the problems that exist. If we learn about something going on, is it better to speak about it to inform others and make them aware of something they are unaware of, or to remain quiet about it?
All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.
- Paraphrase of an Edmund Burke saying
Learning about an injustice or wrongdoing motivates us to care about it. We don't want it to be this way, for it to exist. We can become angry that something is happening, whether it directly affects us or not. We want to talk about it, so that more people can understand, and maybe we can figure out a solution to the problem together.
Letting the problem, issue wrong, or injustice continue is not a solution. What if we were the one in a similar or different position, where we needed help? Even when it's not directly affected us now, the concept of helping others does affect us directly.
We can have empathy and compassion, and put ourselves in the position of another. If we were in their shoes, we would not like what was being done to us. It's not happening to us now, but it is happening to someone else.
We connect and identify with others to see ourselves in others. As others suffer, we suffer. We are all 'connected' in this way. We can see that others need help, and that we would want the same help if it were us. If we want to be helped in a similar situation, people need to care and want to help. If we aren't going to do anything about something, then why would anyone else?
But often we can't act on our own to stop something, to stop a wrongdoing, to bring justice about, etc. We need to associate and unite to form a counter-force to the aggressive-force that violates others. To tackle problems, two heads are better than one. The more people that become aware of something, the more potential there is do something about it through the power of numbers, and to potentially find an optimal solution.
Speaking about the negative in the world is required for us to remove the negative in the world. This is where we can start to do something. But some people want to be ignorant, and don't want to hear about the negative. Many are stuck in positivity masks, in their little bubble of perception and apathy and don't want to know what's really going on in the world or around them. As long as their life is working ok, they are happy, happy to let the world burn around them as they wear rosy colored glasses.
They are so stuck in self-centered positivity, that they don't want to hear it. They want you to keep your "opinions" to yourself. If you "feel" something is wrong, then don't bother them with it. You're being "pushy", "bothersome" or "extreme" for caring and daring to speak up about an issue or problem. As if it's just a "feeling", or "opinion". The specific use of words speaks to their state of consciousness. They just want to reject the validity of the information about what's going on.
They don't "feel" the same as you about it, i.e. they don't care, they are apathetic about it, probably because they are ignorant of it. They view it not as the reality of what is happening, but as the "opinion" of someone else that "feels" differently.
Edmund Burke once said:
"When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall, one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle."
John Stuart Mill said similarly:
"Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing."
Speaking about an issue is doing something, rather than doing nothing. As mentioned earlier, we can't always "do" something right away. Some issues are complex and beyond our control as singular individuals. But when awareness compounds in multiple individuals, the power to act increases and eventually "doing" something can happen.
If there are many bad men combine to do evil, then many good men need to combine to combat it and stop it. If good men don't speak, listen, converse and associate on the moral understanding of an issue, then the immoral issue will persist. Evil people persists in their actions if no good people do anything about it.
Cowardice in the face of evil is sufficient to allow the evil to fester, perpetuate, grow, and maybe come knocking at our door in the future. Ignoring and being apathetic to the wrongs being done is ignoring our connectivity to others on this planet. As others suffer, we suffer. We see ourselves in others, if we care.
If we don't care for others, then no one will care for us. We will all be alone, left to suffer at each our own turn because of polarized self-centered ignorance, apathy and cowardice. Understanding this can bring about honest selfishness and self-centered reflection of how things affect us, and motivate us to do something about it, such as speaking about it.
It's not extreme to speak, share, teach and preach about what the wrongs that are occurring. What's extreme is to ignore it, not care in apathy, and ultimately be a cowards to do anything about it. Learning about it is doing something about it. Without awareness, there is no potential for action to manifest. To solve a problem, first it needs to be known and understood.
