It's hard to be fair here, mainly because it seems too easy to punch down. It's easy to call people who fall for the these scams, these scammers, dumb and uninformed, but I can resist the urge and be compassionate about it.
It all comes from a void, an empty space, an unaccomplished goal. The conn artist learns with time, (the good ones at least) to exploit the weaknesses in our humanity. They learn to feed us the red meat we want to hear, the promise of change, the promise of actual happiness.
I would be lying to everyone, to myself even, if I said I’ve not fallen for scammers myself. It’s happened more than once actually, but we all tend to think, me included, that we become immune to the charm as we age, as we grow. But, is this true?
One thing I will say here is that I tend to not write about these “prophets” too much, because it always seems to upset someone. By nature I don’t look for confrontation, and I happen to be convinced people don’t really like being told they need saving from a conn artist.
As a matter of fact, if you want to make an enemy out of someone, an effective shortcut is to attack that person’s prophet. Note that I’m using the word attack, but it’s serving as a dramatic substitute for criticizing.
Why am I talking about this now? Am I trying to upset a fan of the Liver King or Andrew Tate or any other “be healthy, be rich, be a man” prophet?
Not really, I know I can’t change anyone’s mind on these subjects, but I happen to enjoy writing some of my ideas down on this blog. It’s my sincere hope to go back decades from now and read about who I was in my forties. Maybe I’ll look back and I think I still an idiot, or maybe, just maybe, I will look back and think It was the decade when I
woke up.
I will end with this….
If anyone offers a shortcut, a way to pass-go, collect 200, get all the chicks and look like Adonis for a monthly subscription…. It’s guaranteed to be bovine excrement. No need to dig deep, do “the research”, double check the claims, etc.
I don’t need to take dry liver powder to BE A MAN… I think I’m sure of this truth.
But hey… we are all free to try…
