If I had to be real - I'd admit that it can be useful in a similar degree. As long as there is a goal, I'd say most of anything could be useful (in this context). Philosophy discusses life and death, morality, ethics, etc. My opinion would be this: If the goal is to improve yourself or another's mindset in what philosophy means or what it is, then that goal can be fulfilled and it is useful as a subject.
But in the long run, I would probably dedicate myself to something other than philosophy but only because it would benefit me more. If you find something that benefits you, and that something happens to be philosophy, go for it!
