The Deficiency of History
how correct is your history?
History is the documentation of past occurrences. History is studied, learned and taught in different schools of learning; both formal and informal schools. Those who graduate from the study of history are called historians. History is meant to help mankind understand her genesis and the path of metamorphosis. However, the deficiency of history is what many has not thought about.
The deficiency of history is premised on the deficiency of humanity. The fact that history is documented by humans has made it substantially fallible. Every documented history is based on who documented it. That means it is very subjective to human error;
depending on a lot of factors under which it is documented.
The deficiency of history is very salient when you go through some historic books that documented wars and conflicts. You will discover that if five books are written concerning same war and conflict, you are bound to see conflicting reports because those who are reporting are most likely going to report based on the emotion they shared in the conflict.
Most historic documentation of conflicts are biased. This is not supposed to sound strange because it is expected that every documentation will reflect the view of the person documenting it. The side documenting the conflict is most likely going to favour the sentiments they harbor.
In wars and conflicts, neutral observers are deployed on either side of the conflict but the chances that the neutral observers are going to more or less favour the side they find themselves in is very high.
In some cases, there is a deliberate effort by actors in a conflict to manipulate the truth so as to favour themselves and make themselves look cleaner than they would have appeared had the story been told as it is.
The implication of this is that students of history should do well to gather every opinion documented concerning any history. These opinion should be properly evaluated and analyzed to make a more balanced decision when working with historic documentations.
Man has feeling, feeling affects objectivity therefore, any documentation by man is prone to human subjectivity.
