I have walked in the road called life for 25 years and what I understood that life is the greatest gift could ever happen to me. I am not tempted for eternity, the thrill one can have living life on the edge is the only thing that can give him the sweet taste of being alive. Only the people among us who are not satisfied with life itself ask the question what is the purpose of life? what will happen after I am gone? To know the answer, let us journey through time and investigate our nature and our relationship to the afterlife.
When I was studying in Bangladesh at the university, I used to see these small poor kids, selling tea in the streets or nuts. I really loved to talk to them. I found out that they are not worried about should they go to the mosque or the Church or become a monk. What was worrying them, is how can they sell more nuts and go to the slum they call home and to buy some food and to eat with mother and siblings. To them living life is the most precious thing and being alive means everything and to survive and to smile after the hard toil and pain they go through.Then I asked myself the question, they are not worried about what will happen after I am dead, why am I?
Humans are dependent from the moment they are born as well as all our creatures in nature. We are so helpless when we are born. We need someone's help to feed us, teach us to walk and so many different things. Things can be a little interesting if we take it a bit far. Let us imagine about the few human being in the earth. They didn't have any knowledge about how to make a shelter, medicine or to grow food. So, life was hard. They used to get wet in rain, suffer from natural disasters and injuries. So, with a simple disease, they used to die. So, like always we humans were helpless. So, they used to think there is God of rain, disasters or diseases who are so angry at humans. So, to satisfied them we sacrificed, fasted and made so many other traditions which still exists on the earth. But, with time man has learnt to make shelter, they learnt to make medicine and cure diseases. But we didn't leave our Gods. We think that these Gods are now pleased with us. So, we are more and more secure than before. In the corner of our mind that helplessness still exists.
Let's have a look around us. Let's look at nature. Every day so many animals, birds, insects are dying we are not asking where do they go after they die? Because we know they are going to be the food of another animal or they will be decomposed. For them, we can believe that after they die, that is the end of it. There is no coming back or to go to another different life where they will exist but us we believe that we have another life after that. Even because we want to exist we invented reincarnation. When a Hindu couple is married they make a circle around the fire for seven times. What does that mean? Well, that means that we will be together for 6 more lives after this. Even people who want to heaven, they don't want to die to get there. Why is that? The answer is plain and simple we love existence. We can't believe that we won't exist one day in these bittersweet place called earth. Who can think that they won't ever breath this sweet smell of the air, ever watch a football match ever or fell the heartbeat of my lover while making love.
