As soon as I posted on Steem I remembered why I had resisted posting for so long, the need for approval the desire for likes. Is this need for approval a part of what it means to be human?
From the earliest age this need helps us learn what behaviors are acceptable and how to modify how we act to get what we need. We care what people think about our actions and this is important as it keeps us in check.
Maybe AI should be designed to “care” - to only act when there is consensus or sufficient “likes” for the proposed action - this would control AI much the way we are controlled.
Concern for the opinion of others can stop us doing what is right for us to do. Balancing our will with the will of others, desire for approval and desire to push boundaries, this is at once a source of creativity and the fence around creativity. This struggle cannot exist within an AI which may perform better but perform what better?
The question of who we seek approval from also tells a lot about ourselves. The unattainable approval seems to be the most important approval of all for inspiring human creativity.
Emotions , a constant battle for humans. Are emotions important or necessary? Do they just get in the way? Are they part of intelligence or a hindrance to intelligence?
Human awareness of God, and the accountability resulting from that awareness, capacity for worship, awareness of time and ability to feel and experience time , are these things that can ever be replicated? Are these uniquely human intelligence?
Can an AI be inspired, have imagination? As Einstein says imagination is more important than knowledge.
