The new smartphone models will no longer have SIM cards. The technology that replaces them
The new phones will no longer have a SIM card slot.
As soon as the headphone jack starts to disappear, SIM card slots will soon become history. To save space and money, phone makers could soon be using iSIM, that is, an integrated SIM card in the phone chip along with the processor.
The company that already produces these iSIMs is ARM. New iSIMs will be integrated into the chip, so there is no need for space for a separate slot.
This way, the phone's battery can be bigger. In addition, these integrated SIMs are much cheaper than the classic ones, according to the Android Authority.
It remains to be seen if the producers will be really excited about this idea. According to ARM, the benefits are obvious, and the project could become reality in a year or two.
