The project is located in the marine city of Shaba Al-Hamad Al-Shaba in southern Kuwait. To expand the length of the available coastline, the project brought the ocean into the desert, created a series of canals, docked several wharfs and yachts, and the entire area was activated by many other recreational activities.
Five plots of five houses are situated on an inland river overlooking the sea. It is hoped that the overall design will remain unified from the early stage. The five houses will use the same architectural language: using simple geometric plane and basic design concepts, functional organization to construct an image with contemporary design style coherence and proportion. Fine and coordinated differences ensure the complexity and diversity of this group of residential communities.
The project involves understanding and reproducing Kuwait's lifestyle and its needs. The design links the main areas of daily life to beaches, outdoor courtyards, gardens and swimming pools. These areas are placed on the first floor and have a good view of the canal. In this way, households can use these spaces in accordance with their own needs to enhance the flexibility of the use of the entire public area, while also making the indoor and outdoor comfortably connected. Near the entrance is a social space called "diwanyia" for gathering visitors.
The upper space is enclosed by the wall, and some places are opened, which effectively guarantees privacy. Each house has some functional differences, but it does not image them as a whole. In a deeper place is a room for family members, with a protected area that provides an overview of the city. The roof can overlook the Khiran panorama 360 degrees, making it an ideal leisure space. The sofa and special seating area are suitable for viewing sunset when the sun is not too strong. Staff dormitories are available on different floors, directly connecting their activity circles.
The basic organizational concepts of these five villas are similar. Despite the similarity of design techniques, the composition of space is somewhat different, making each villa unique. When viewed from the road, their facades seem to be simply repeated five times. From the other side of the canal, you can see different elevation designs. This simple and neutral design method attempts to restore the usability, functionality and livability of residential buildings through the use of basic courtyard design. This is naturally in contradiction with the current development of housing in this city. Nowadays, residential design is complex and diverse, lacking the standard of color, size, form, material and construction method. This complex heterogeneity makes it impossible to define this place simply.
